United Bicycle Institute (UBI) is a private school for bicycle mechanics and custom bicycle frame building in Ashland, Oregon, United States. The school offers one and two week courses and has hosted students from 45 different countries. Through the Oregon school system, UBI continues to help educate veterans and those with VA education benefits as well as traditional students ranging anywhere from first-time mechanics who have never worked in a shop before, to mechanics that are looking to certify or continue their education into more specialized avenues like wheel-building, suspension work, and framebuilding.
Ron Sutphin, the current owner, has been an instructor since it was founded in 1981. In the summer of 2009, the institute opened a second campus in Portland offering most of the same classes as its campus in Ashland.
After graduation, the school offers graduates a chance to connect with more of the industry through job listing boards and access to their manuals, a listing of many of the bike shops and component distributors links, as well as being open to questions to the staff members.
